Over the years we tend to forget what the greatest human wonders have occurred in our lifetime. I am talking of the way man has progressed in science. Not all is good, I admit that, but most is inspiring and literally gigantic in the way it has shaped our understanding of the universe.
I have quite a few IMAX films that are based on space and, like one of the titles, keeps the dream alive. They are all truly great but one stands out from the rest as being one of the absolute tests of man and machine. That film is Hail Columbia!

2010 brought a bright light in what is a mostly dim TV schedule. The Trip made it's comic debut. Julia and I fell in love with the programme from the outset. Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon mostly improvised their way through a simple idea. To visit restaurants in the North of England. They are thrown together when Steve's girlfriend backs out from his task of reviewing the restaurants for the Observer magazine. Steve chooses Rob as you get the feeling he has no other friends to invite. They play themselves and in doing so act with hilarious flaws and competition. The duo's impression off is one of my favourite pieces of comic TV. (I do not say that lightly as it has to compete with Gavin and Stacey!)

Julia and I have been following the Waltons. We remember the series from when we were young and recently a UK channel called True Entertainment is reshowing the entire run. I am glad they are due to the very nature of the programme. It is moralistic, yes at times idealistic but it has a heart. It ran from 1972 until 1997 (if you include the TV movies) and in that time was one of the most popular American series. I can understand the reasons. It was based in the 30's and 40's on Waltons' mountain. This was a time of depression and war, tackled in the series of course, always through the eyes of a family unit in great scenery with quality actors and actresses.

I love the fact that Steven Moffat's wife purchased a bronze NSD Dalek for him at Christmas 2013 from This Planet Earth
This Planet Earth are licensed to sell replicas of Daleks and other Dr Who items.

Steven is firstly a true Dr Who fan, as was Russell T Davis before him, and you can see that through the writing. The love for the classic series shows through. The nod to past stories and the ingenuity that new adventures produce is glorious.
Just seeing this photograph shows even now, with all the stress of the position Steven has, that his childhood love for the series is still very much alive.

What can I say? Over 50 years later, with a modern spin, it has returned and the limited edition 50 have already got peoples names on them.

"I wanted to build a bike that was the pure essence of a café racer, with no expense spared. The kind of bike that I would build if I took home a Norton Commando and stripped it down to it's bare essentials" - Simon Skinner, Norton Motorcycles

This machine really is the most exciting bike for years. I can't think of a machine I would rather be on come a lovely summers day. It exudes classic style and that sound would throb as thunderous as an E power chord played on a Gibson Les Paul played at full pelt through a Marshall stack.

I have to say that I've spent hours on the web reading and viewing Dr Who information that mainly comes from one source. I blame this source for time that I will never get back but has been incredibly enjoyable.

Gavin Rymill is an illustrator and 3D artist who really knows his Who facts. His art is stunning as he captures atmosphere exactly like my other favourite illustrator Derick Riggs (incidentally I have the most fantastic signed book of his Derick's work, pictures that I grew up with in the 80's)

I don't think it is too much of an u ... Read more »

Well I thought I had seen all the oddest performances known to man, that is until now. Please watch the video and make your own mind up but one thing is clear....that lead singer is one hell of a character.

The main component that bands lack is a lead singer that you simply can not take your eyes off. David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson are my picks in what is part of a small list. Every year it certainly gets smaller in the 'popular' music category. I put that down to the dirge that is X Factor, The Voice and that endless list of worldwide 'talent' shows. All creating the same honed clones.

This is where our friends on the video show how to cut out the clone and create a showstop ... Read more »

My Girlfriends Mum went on a trip recently aboard a ship across the Norwegian Fjords. It was to relax with her husband, taking in the scenery and to see those amazing northern lights. They really enjoyed the trip and after seeing the photographs it certainly looked a fantastic experience.

Role on these last few evenings. Suddenly the Aurora Borealis comes further down north and illuminates Yorkshire. Now at this point I have to say that unfortunately I have not witnessed this enigmatic sight myself. It is rare to see the charged particles in the area I live. The solar wind is usually at the North and South poles and contained within a circular pattern. The Nasa website is perfect for finding out the details of ... Read more »

Big Finish is a name that means pure quality to me.
They have produced audio adventures since 1998. I love them for the Dr Who adventures but have listened to other ranges with just as much glorious satisfaction. Ranges include 2000AD, Blakes 7, Dalek Empire, Highlander, Robin Hood, I Davros, Sherlock Holmes and even Sapphire and Steel. These examples don't even touch the edges!

The reason I love them is that the production is incredible. While listen ... Read more »

I am sorry to say that Facebook really has lost its charm. I rarely venture on it nowadays and when I do it is full of sponsored adverts. The layout has gradually got worse and the phone app is not worth the hassle as it direly loads feeds in the wrong order. I will only go on it to see friends status updates if I know something is happening and that is very rare.
One thing that has become an aspect of Facebook that i can not relate to is the constant 'baby' photos. Don't get me wrong, they are cute, but I simply can not relate to them. It makes me sound like a stick in the mud as I know that it is the number one purpose in that parents life. It is just so prevalent on Facebook that they have even invented an app to replace baby photos with pictures of other effects!
