To start with I have to admit my bias for this film. I’ve loved it since seeing it for the first time on an old VHS. Nothing has ever come close to an individual cosmic vision than Dune. There have been pages and pages of reviews full of hate and venom stating that David Lynch did not do justice to Frank Herbert’s Dune novels. Let me set the record straight about this, nobody can, or could, do justice to the whole set of novels. They are complex and deal with everything from politics to drugs, infusing it all with mysticism.

As I have said before, Tom Baker is one of my favourite Dr Who actors. I have been making my way through the classic series. Visiting some stories I have never seen and others that I remember scaring the light out of me as a child. I have just seen Logopolis and just seeing the miniaturized victims brought a shiver to my inner child. The story itself is a great bow out for Tom. You can see the BBC website here for more information on the story which was series 18 of the long running drama.

When David Tennant made his wrap party the following video was shown. It is new to me and is a real novelty for fans of David’s era as Dr Who. Comedy has always played a part in the Dr’s stories and behind the scenes japes are a pleasure to see.

I have included it in my blog as it reminds me of how great a show I feel the BBC gives us. My ‘Doctors’ are Tom Baker and Paul Mcgann but that does not mean I don’t like any other. In fact it is quite the opposite, each Dr brings his own ... Read more »

Over the years we tend to forget what the greatest human wonders have occurred in our lifetime. I am talking of the way man has progressed in science. Not all is good, I admit that, but most is inspiring and literally gigantic in the way it has shaped our understanding of the universe.
I have quite a few IMAX films that are based on space and, like one of the titles, keeps the dream alive. They are all truly great but one stands out from the rest as being one of the absolute tests of man and machine. That film is Hail Columbia!

I love the fact that Steven Moffat's wife purchased a bronze NSD Dalek for him at Christmas 2013 from This Planet Earth
This Planet Earth are licensed to sell replicas of Daleks and other Dr Who items.

Steven is firstly a true Dr Who fan, as was Russell T Davis before him, and you can see that through the writing. The love for the classic series shows through. The nod to past stories and the ingenuity that new adventures produce is glorious.
Just seeing this photograph shows even now, with all the stress of the position Steven has, that his childhood love for the series is still very much alive.

What can I say? Over 50 years later, with a modern spin, it has returned and the limited edition 50 have already got peoples names on them.

"I wanted to build a bike that was the pure essence of a café racer, with no expense spared. The kind of bike that I would build if I took home a Norton Commando and stripped it down to it's bare essentials" - Simon Skinner, Norton Motorcycles

This machine really is the most exciting bike for years. I can't think of a machine I would rather be on come a lovely summers day. It exudes classic style and that sound would throb as thunderous as an E power chord played on a Gibson Les Paul played at full pelt through a Marshall stack.

I have to say that I've spent hours on the web reading and viewing Dr Who information that mainly comes from one source. I blame this source for time that I will never get back but has been incredibly enjoyable.

Gavin Rymill is an illustrator and 3D artist who really knows his Who facts. His art is stunning as he captures atmosphere exactly like my other favourite illustrator Derick Riggs (incidentally I have the most fantastic signed book of his Derick's work, pictures that I grew up with in the 80's)

I don't think it is too much of an u ... Read more »

My Girlfriends Mum went on a trip recently aboard a ship across the Norwegian Fjords. It was to relax with her husband, taking in the scenery and to see those amazing northern lights. They really enjoyed the trip and after seeing the photographs it certainly looked a fantastic experience.

Role on these last few evenings. Suddenly the Aurora Borealis comes further down north and illuminates Yorkshire. Now at this point I have to say that unfortunately I have not witnessed this enigmatic sight myself. It is rare to see the charged particles in the area I live. The solar wind is usually at the North and South poles and contained within a circular pattern. The Nasa website is perfect for finding out the details of ... Read more »

Big Finish is a name that means pure quality to me.
They have produced audio adventures since 1998. I love them for the Dr Who adventures but have listened to other ranges with just as much glorious satisfaction. Ranges include 2000AD, Blakes 7, Dalek Empire, Highlander, Robin Hood, I Davros, Sherlock Holmes and even Sapphire and Steel. These examples don't even touch the edges!

The reason I love them is that the production is incredible. While listen ... Read more »

I have always wanted to build my own home. We are a few steps closer but have a long way to go as I was made redundant just as I'd built up enough savings.

Looking into it again recently has reignited my passion to carry on with the plan. I have been in touch with a very helpful architect that won an award from Grand Designs under the affordable section. The structure was based on a barn, steel structure and wood panelling with straw insulation and solar energy. The house would be built in an 'area of outstanding national beauty' which means alternative structures do not usually get a look in. The term AONB ... Read more »
